The First Days
The first days
All we had was just ourselves,
Respect was all we knew.
The first days
Before we find love’s fatal flaw
Hiding in all we do.
A time when we exist,
A time where we belong,
A time we are brand new,
Suspended in moments of honesty
When what we said flowed naturally
When things we did were true.
Amid the last days,
First days come to mind
Burning me with desire
As I search for feelings
That I may never find
Will stop this raging fire.
The first days
We were so very close
We didn’t have a clue
The first days
We’re so convinced
We no longer need pursue
The first days
When we create
Things we later mediate.
The first days
We hold in check
Words that will love wreck.
Those first days are so far away,
Fading into nothingness,
I keep them alive lest I forget
The measure of true happiness.
